Laura Elizabeth Wilson

Hi! I'm Laura — a social + influencer strategist, speaker, and writer with 15+ years of experience bridging the worlds of traditional communications and digital culture. I've led award-winning campaigns, built and rebuilt social programs for Fortune 100 brands, worked in-house and in agencies, and taught the next generation of communicators along the way.

I'm currently a Senior Vice President at Weber Shandwick, where I lead our social + influencer team across the South region, based out of our Washington, DC office. In 2024, I was honored to be named PRWeek’s 40 Under 40, Georgetown University’s Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year for the Public Relations and Corporate Communications program, and Employee of the Year in our Weber Shandwick DC office — 24 has always been my lucky number!

One of my favorite projects over the years was leading an award-winning first-person documentary series. Working in social media focused roles for well over a decade, I’ve been in the industry since the MySpace Top 8, in a time when brands couldn’t find their way around a Facebook Page (and let’s be honest many still can’t).

I've been in this field since the MySpace Top 8 days — back when brands were still figuring out how a Facebook Page worked (some still are). I'm a frequent speaker on digital storytelling, TikTok and platform trends, and the evolving media landscape. You can check out some past work [here, here, here, and here].

I also teach in the Master’s in Public Relations & Corporate Communications program at Georgetown University — the same program I graduated from early in my career. I've taught everything from social media strategy to the Capstone course, where students create strategic comms plans for real clients. It's one of the most rewarding parts of my professional life. I've also taught in the M.A. in Communication program at Johns Hopkins University and in the Integrated Marketing Communications master’s program at West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media.

When the sun goes down I turn into an obsessed dog mom (my papillons Blueberry and Basil are the absolute cutest and bring so much laughter into my life). I’m a connoisseur of fine (and not so fine) Virginia wines and I’m an aspiring chef (that’s what they call someone who has worn out their Uber Eats app right? Right?!). I’m a novice runner, a wannabe diver, a soccer player and a Hokies and Hoyas fan (and sometimes they make it really hard). I’m always trying to learn more, holding two master's degrees from Georgetown University and a bachelors from Virginia Tech and recently I also knocked out an MBA with a concentration in data analytics (thanks, pandemic for the push). I’ve been to more than thirty different countries and I still think my hometown of Charlottesville, Va. is the best damn place in the world. I think I’m a lot funnier than I actually am. I’ve been a Disney Cast Member and a radio personality. My golf game peaked at age 3.  My goal next year is to finally win the Krispy Kreme Challenge (hey, dream big right?).
